A lot of people have been asking me what's the difference between P90X and P90X2. Honestly I had no idea so I went straight to the source. Here is an exserp from a Q&A with P90X2 trainer Tony Horton.
How does P90X2 differ from P90X?
P90X is a program to help people get fit, strong, and lean. P90X2 takes it to the next level and helps you move and perform like an athlete. It's not a body-shaping exercise program. It's high-intensity, functional, core athletic training that allows people to perform better on multiple planes and in multiple sports.
What's new about the Nutrition Guide?
We've given our P90X grads more meal options. We've got vegan, vegetarian, grain-free . . . even a couple raw recipes. We understand people have different tastes, objectives, and preferences. But, all of the menus are whole, healthy, and tasty.
What are you eating these days?
Presently, I eat a lot of vegan meals. But, I also eat meals with free-range organic chicken and eggs, wild salmon, and other healthy fish.
So, we noticed that P90X is six days a week, while P90X2 is five days a week. What do you recommend people do on their days off?
A day off doesn't mean "do nothing." I'm a big fan of active rest. My hope is that people will take the 6th or 7th day and participate in something that is active but not a full-blown P90X2 routine. Go for a hike or a mountain bike ride. Take the skills you're building five days and go outside and enjoy life. You don't do P90X2 just to get better at P90X2. It's really indoor training for the outside world.
Are there modifications to the moves?
For each exercise, there are modifications and moves for people on the road who don't have all the gear. You can still do P90X2 with just gravity, a chair, and resistance bands.
That's great. So, then why would someone need the foam roller that's used in the X2 Recovery + Mobility workout?
Foam rolling will save you. It helps relieve pain, prevent injury, and improve mobility.
